IDS cable pits deliver passive safety for street lighting columns
The Integrated Ducting Systems (IDS) Mark II chamber system has recently been installed along the A1073 by Morgan Est. The A1073 is an important strategic link between Lincolnshire and Eastern England for the distribution of both agricultural and food processing freight and as a local commuter route.
IDS Mark II chambers were chosen for this road improvement scheme as, being manufactured from 100% recycled plastic and with their twin walled construction, offering superior loading in excess of C250, they suited the specification. They also provided a low environmental impact construction with rapid installation.
The IDS Mark II chambers have been used as dis-connection cable pits for the street lighting columns, with approximately one cable pit for each street lighting column, complete with a disconnection board fitted inside. Therefore In the event of a knockdown due to a vehicle colliding with the column, the power supply to the lighting column is instantly disconnected.
The IDS Mark II cable pits were supplied to Morgan Est by Burdens Limited , the UK’s largest specialist civil engineering supplier from their Cambridge branch.
